"Before taking his degree at St. Chad's Hall, Durham, Kenneth Walton Grigson enlisted in 7th (Cyclist) Battalion, The Devonshire Regiment. This was a reinforcement Battalion that never left the United Kingdom: according to contemporary Army Lists, a number of officers were attached to 5th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's Own). Kenneth Grigson was commissioned on 7 March 1915, promoted Lieutenant on 1 June 1916 and awarded the Military Cross in the King's Birthday Honours in 1918." more ...
