About Celina Newton (Burnham)
Celina came from Hanover, New Hampshire. Her family had farmland in northeast Hanover and in Canaan where the Burnhams settled when they migrated north from Connecticut as towns developed after the Middle Grant Charters in 1761.
Celina brought to her new home in Hartford, Vermont a horse-hair covered trunk, measuring not even two feet long, with her possessions.
Her children: Frederick lived in the family homestead farming all his life. His wife and he had no children living past infancy. Edward bought land just north of the family farm, married, ran a dairy farm and ice business, and lived there until his death with no heirs. Katherine "Kate" married a Mainer and "moved west". Alfred moved to Chicago with his wife and raised a family there. His son died of TB. James didn't want to be a farmer and moved to Manchester, NH to become a successful machine shop owner with a family of six children. His youngest child inherited the Newton homestead. Leonard went to school at Norwich University, served in the Spanish-American War, and later worked for his brother James in Manchester. He died prematurely of appendicitis.
