Christopher Crow isn't listed in histories as a child of John Crow, of Hartford; he died before John and is “most likely” his son.


BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Christopher Crow may have come from the vicinity of East Bilney, Norfolk. See John G. Hunt,"Origin of the Crowell and Crowe Families of New England...," TAG, 35(1958):173 (FHL #973 D25aga).

DEATH: No death rec found. By 11 Dec 1680 Christopher Crow and his wife had left the Connecticut colony leaving the children and debts. The estate of Christopher Crow at Windsor was inventoried, 13 Dec 1680, adm granted 20 Apr 1681, and again 6 Mar 1684, by which time it appears Christopher was dead. Christopher CROW was born in about 1631. He arrived at Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut and was made a freeman in 1656. He married Mary BURR, daughter of Benjamin BURR of Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut, on 15 Jan 1656/1657 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut.
Their children were:

  1. Samuel CROW 1664–1698, m. Martha Moses, dau. of John Moses on 30 Jan 1688/89.
  2. Mary CROW Clark Randall 1665–1761. m. John Clark, s. of Daniel Clark and Mary Newberry in about 1685.
  3. Hannah Crow 1668–1684
  4. Martha CROW Phelps 1670–1705, m. Timothy Phelps 1663-1737 in 1686.
  5. Benoni CROW 1672–1703
  6. Margaret Crow 1673–
  7. Thomas CROW 1679–1680

He had a farm in Greenfield in Windsor, but the town allowed Edward Bartlett to sojourn with him in Windsor in 1668 while he took care of his own crop.

He abandoned his wife and children in 1680, leaving behind his debts and his family. His wife Mary also left him in about 1680, leaving their children destitute. He and his wife were separated.

On 11 Dec 1681 his estate was seized, inventoried and probated to pay the debts and to distribute to his children. It was finalized in 1684. His wife remarried Josiah Clark in abt 1681 and they had one son in Jan 1882/3

Christopher was first at Hartford, then after a few years (by 1668) removed to Windsor, CT; freeman in 1658. Christopher was at Windsor 1668 when he was allowed by the town to have Edward Bartlett "sojourn with him until he had taken off the crop he had sown"; had a farm at Greenfield, in Windsor; left Windsor and was residing (1683) at Hartford; his wife, also left about 1680, leaving behind her 3 young children in a suffering state; the Connecticut ordanance, 11 Dec 1680, that Samuel and Thos. Burrr should take inventory of estate, pay debts, and take charge of the children, which had been done by 1684 - Hinman.5

On 15 Jan 1656 Christopher married Mary Burr (1687) , daughter of Benjamin Burr (78) (1610-31 Mar 1681) & Ann Hannah (1617-31 Aug 1683), in Hartford, CT.6

Christopher Crow was born about 1633. He married Mary Burr Jan. 15, 1656. He and his wife were separated when she married Josiah Clark before 1682. Christopher died after 1683.<ref>D., Payne-Joyce.
