About Christopher Luke Wiseman

Christopher Luke Wiseman (20 April 1893 Edgbaston - 25 July 1987 Milford-on-Sea) was the only friend of J.R.R. Tolkien who survived World War I, during which he served as an Instructor Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. He was one of the T.C.B.S., Barrovian Society and it was after Wiseman who Tolkien named his son, Christopher Tolkien.

Christopher was highly knowledgeable about natural sciences and music. He was an amateur composer, and also an excellent mathematician.
