About Daniel Sabin

Notes

Daniel Sabin eventually migrated to Windham, Conn. about the time that his half-sister, Elizabeth Wheelock, and her new husband, Elisha Smith, migrated to Windham from Medfield, Mass. On Mar. 18, 1700/1 at Windham, Daniel Sabin m. Abigail Abbe, dau. of John Abbe, formerly of Wenham, Mass. (The "Sabin Family in America" errs in calling Abigail's father Obadiah, who was her next oldest brother, not her father.) Daniel and Abigail had only two children of record at Windham:

• i. Abigail Sabin, b. Jan. 20, 1701/2; d. an infant Mar. 26, 1702.

• ii. Sarah Sabin, b. Mar. 27, 1703, d. at Windham May 4, 1737, Æ 35; m. at Windham May 12, 1724 as his 1st wife, Israel Robinson, s. of Peter Robinson and Mary Manter, b. at Tisbury, Mass. Mar. 16, 1694/5.

There is no record of wife Abigail's death or that Daniel had a second wife. On Mar. 14, 1727/8 Daniel Sabin gave, for love and affection, land to son-in-law Israel Robinson as evidenced by the following deed (Windham LR, Bk G:37):

• I Daniel Saben of Windham, County of Windham CT etc In consideration of the Love Goodwill affection that I have for my Son In Law Israel Robinson of aforesd town etc have Given twenty acres of Land and Meadow Lying in Windham and is part of that Land that I bought of Mr. Samuel Whiting and Lt. Jonathan Crane on the north side of the highway near my now Dwelling house etc. ...............................Daniel Saben (LS)

Witness:
Richard Abbe John Abbe

That this deed lacks acquiescence by a wife suggests by 1728 wife Abigail was dead, and may well have d. not long after the birth of dau. Sarah in 1703.

The "Sabin Family in America" claims Daniel died Nov. 9, 1755 while the "Abbe Family" genealogy gives no date of death for either Daniel or wife Abigail. There is no printed record of Daniel's death at Windham or record of the place of his interment. Whether Daniel left an estate record with the Windham Probate District has not been researched by the writer.
