About Dorcas Jones

Note: The location of Dorcas (Unknown Maiden Name) Jones Buss's burial site is UNCONFIRMED. She died at the estimated age of 86. It seems likely that Dorcas would have been buried with her second husband at South Burying Place. This is in the process of being verified.

Dorcas married John Jones (1623 - 1673) in 1648. Her husband was NOT the same person as the celebrated Reverend John Jones of Concord, who later removed with his followers to Fairfield, CT.

However, research on the "other" John Jones of Concord seems to indicate that he came to the colonies as an indentured servant, likely with origins in Wales.

Dorcas remains a mystery, with much conjecture and little documentation or factual research regarding her origins. It is known that she married Ensign William Buss in 1674 after the death of John Jones in 1673. It was the second marriage for both, William being a widower upon the death of his first wife, Ann/Anna Merriman or Merriam (1620 – 1674).
