About Eber Ebersohn
http://www.ics.uci.edu/~dan/genealogy/Krakow/Families/Ebersohn.html... shows "Eber" as the father of a man named Samuel Ebersohn. It is virtually certain however that this patriarchal Eber had a Jewish patronymic, ben "Somebody," but highly UNlikely that the would have been known as Eber's Son, or would have used, once surnames were introduced, the surname Ebersohn. This would imply that Eber's father was also named Eber. Unless he was born posthumously, he would never have been given the same name as his father, the equivalent of Eber Jr. Jewish custom in this area would never have sanctioned the giving of a living person's name to his son.
