About Edward Barton

Will of Edward Barton

In the name of God, amen. I, Edward Barton, of the County of Stafford, being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory, blessed be God for it, do declare this to be my Last Will and Testament, in manner and form following.

Item. I give and bequeath my soul to God Almighty which gave it, in certain hopes of a blessed salvation, and my body to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor, hereafter named, and as for my worldly estate which it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me withal, I give and bequeath as followeth.

Item. I give to my two grandchildren, Ann Linton and Moses Linton, all my land in Virginia, to be equally divided between them when they shall come of age, only my daughter Ann Linton is to have her thirds in it during her life.

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Linton, one feather bed and furniture.

Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson William Linton one feather bed and furniture.

Item. I give and bequeath to Sarah Barber one cow and calf, being the young red pied cow.

Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson William Linton one black horse.

Item. I give and bequeath to my son-in-law John Linton all my temporal estate, after my just debts and legacies are paid.

Item. I appoint my son-in-law John Linton to be my whole and sole executor of this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of January 1712.

Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of Owen O’Dayall, Thomas Pimb and Dorcas Venables

This will was presented in court the 14th day of January 1712 by John Linton, Esquire, therein named who made to the same and proved to be the last will and testament of Edward Barton by the oaths of Owen Dyall and Dorcas Venables, witnesses, thereto is admitted to record. And on motion of the said John Linton and his performing what is usual in such cases certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due time and is recorded.
