About Edward Ellerker, MP

b. c. June 1537, 1st of Sir Ralph Ellerker by Katherine, da. of Sir John Constable of Holderness. m. Elizabeth, da. of Sir Robert Constable† of Everingham, 4 or 5s. suc. fa. Sept. 1558. Ellerker died on 28 Dec. 1586. His will, drawn up on 20 Sept. the same year, was proved in March 1587 at York. He asked to be buried in the chancel of Rowley parish church near Beverley, with his wife, ‘in the sepulchre of my ancestors’. Almost all the legacies were to his sons, the eldest of whom, Ralph, aged 22, was made sole executor.

The Ellerker Chapel in St Peter's Church, Rowley, Yorkshire has the following inscription:
" Here lyeth the body of Sir Ralph Ellerker, of Risby Knight, High Sheriff of the County of York, he died the last of August, 1509 [this date is incorrect]. He married Catherine the daughter of Sir John Constable, of Burton Constable, and they had issue, Edward Ellerker, who lies in this place, who married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Robert Constable, of Everingham, who had issue Ralph, Robert, William, John, Eleanor, Frances, Ann, and Margaret."
