A daughter of Thomas Garrett and Ann Owsley, Elizabeth was born on 20 Oct 1760 in Fairfax, Virginia.

On 1773, she married John Ashley in Laurens, South Carolina. [1] In 1782, she married a second time; her second husband's name was also John Ashley.[2]

Elizabeth Garrett Ashley is buried at Warrior Creek Baptist Cemetery located in Laurens South Carolina.[3]
