Elizabeth Groome was born about 1593. (Based on her age of 41 years when she migrated in 1634.)[1]

Elizabeth married George Munnings in Rattlesden, England on the 12th of June in 1620.[2]

On April 30, 1634 "George Munning's" (37 years of age), "Elizabeth his wife" (41 years of age), "Elizabeth Munning's" (12 years of age), and "Abigail Munning's" (7 years of age) enrolled as passengers for New England aboard the Elizabeth of Ipswich.[1]

The family first resided in Watertown where her husband became a church member before March 4, 1634/5. They began keeping a house of entertainment and sold beer without a license and her husband was fined 20s on June 6, 1637. Regarding land holdings, in the Watertown Composit Inventory her husband held seven parcels, "an homestall of fourteen acres"; "six acres of upland"; "five acres of meadow"; "three acres of meadow at Beaver Brook"; "thirty acres of upland being a Great Dividend"; "a Farm of seventy-three acres upland in the 5 division"; and "seven acres & half upland beyond the Further Plain & 63 lot."[1]

In 1639 they moved to Sudbury where on February 22, 1639/40 her husband was given "three acres and a half and three acres and a half allowance" in the first division of meadow and "seven acres and four acres of allowance" in the second division. In 1640 he was granted "ten acres of meadow and ten acres of upland" in appreciation for a service he had done.[1]

By 1651 they were residing in Boston when they sold land in Watertown to Edward Garfield, John Shearman.[1]

Elizabeth died prior to June 23, 1657 for it was on that date that her widowed husband married (2nd) to Joanna (_____) Boyer, widow of Simon Boyer.[1]

The inventory of Elizabeth Munnings included a Bible valued at 2s, 6 d.[1]

Research Notes

Henry Bond wrote that he had a son George born in 1655, so George Munnings probably had a younger wife. Robert Charles Anderson in his comments section of the sketch of George Munnings indicates that child "George" was George Manning, not Munning.[1][6]
