Despite lack of sufficient documentation, many online trees[1] claim that:
Elizabeth was born in 1612 in Hingham, Norfolk, England, the daughter of Edmund Hobart and Margaret Dewe, but there is no record of such a child.[2] The chief source in this matter is the book "Hobart Family In America-Twelve Generations," by Dorothy M. Titus. (NOTE: Titus, p 3, does claim a daughter of Elizabeth but says of her "no further record." So Titus is NOT the source for Elizabeth marrying Ralph Smith.) LDS Ancestral File AFN: FVN4-ZT supports it as well as her marriage to Ralph Smith. Titus says Elizabeth arrived in the new world in 1633, but apparently on a different ship than her parents.
"Date of her supposed marriage to Ralph Smith is unknown, but as her first child died in infancy about 1639 the marriage could have been about 1638." As Elizabeth was 22 in 1633 and did not marry Ralph Smith until 1638, it's very likely she had an earlier marriage in Hingham, Massachusetts, and was a widow when she married Ralph Smith. No children have been found from any earlier, union, however.[3] Elizabeth was the first wife of Ralph Smith or mother of his children. There is no such evidence[4] Elizabeth was also an immigrant from Hingham, Norfolk, England, moved from Hingham to Eastham and died there in 1654.[citation needed] Had children all named Smith.[citation needed] Where is the evidence that the mother of Ralph's children was Elizabeth?
