But - additional comment from http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raoul_Ier_de_Vexin

(Pierre Baudin noted that it is rather Raoul, Ermenfroi's son in law, who grouped the three counties of Vexin, d'Amiens and Valois. But in any case, it is certain that he acquired through his wife.)

Origins:

  • Online trees frequently show Ermenfroi as the second child and 1st son of Eberhard of Fruili & Gisele, daughter of Louis the Pious. It is difficult to find the original attribution. Perhaps it's a misreading of Weiss' "Ancestral Roots" in an earlier edition. So as of Jan 2014 the Geni tree shows his parents as "unknown.".

Research into his true origins invited by discussion on the profile.

Kinship also played a significant role in securing newly acquired territory. Ermenfroi and Raoul l de Gouy defended their country from the Northmen's raids and their neighbors through a marriage alliance and their fidelity to the king. (145). Raoul's marriage to Eldegarde, Ermenfroi's daughter or niece, secured Ermenfroi's counties to his grandchildren, and helped Raoul maintain his control over Ostrevant."

▼Facts and Events Name[1] Ermenfroi d'Amiens, Comte d'Amiens, de Valois et du Vexin Death[1] bet 919 and 923

Very little is known about Ermenfroi, other than that he was Count of Amiens, Valois and Vexin in the early 10th century, that he died between 919 and 923, and that he had brothers Gozbert and Francon, abbot of Corbie. Seversmith speculated that the wife of Raoul de Gouy was Ermenfroi's daughter or niece, and through her, Amiens, Valois and Vexin were passed to her son.
