About Gabriel Adams, of Fairfax County

I. Gabriel Adams ( -1749) was a large landowner who, between 1726 and 1742, acquired some 2,147 acres of land in Fairfax County. Adams owned two tracts of land in present-day Arlington County. One tract consisting of 338 acres (NN-C-136) was sold to John Colville on April 20, 1731, and the other tract was a 790-acre plat (NN-C-74) which was sold to John Mercer on Septem- ber 19, 1730. This latter tract was purchased by George Washington on Decem- ber 12, 1774. Adams was a vestryman of Truro Parish in 1732, voted for Fair- fax burgess in 1744, and exempted from paying any further parish taxes levied in 1745.

He married Priscillia Pearson, daughter of Thomas Pearson, and they had issue:

Davice lived on; son Sylvester 100 acres Mary Bryend lives on, Elizabeth Nevet lives on plantation rent free; if either sons die without heirs, grandson Benjamin Williams gets 100 acres; my desire is that son Silvester and Cathon Earl lives with my daughter Susanna Summers til they come to the age of 18 years; my son Simon lives with his brother William Adams til he comes to 18 years and my grandson Benjamin Williams lives with my son Gabriel Adams til he comes to age of 18 years. My will is that my Executor shall account with my within named children when they come to the age of 20 years . After debts paid, the remaining shall be divided equally among my children.
