Notes
Gabrielle was a maidservant of Marie Couillard, wife of Francois Bissot, the Sieur se Riviere. On November 11, 1658, she and Pierre Labrecque went to notar Audouart for approval of their maariage, but the agreement was subsequently annulled Aug 24 1659. Gabrielle met Guillaume and they were united by maariage contact in a civli ceremony on August 24, 1969 in the Bissot home. source: Généalogie et histoire des Landry
Before a wedding would take place, the parents of the bride and groom would meet, often along with other family members, to discuss the dowry and other financial matters. They would then have a marriage contract drawn up by a notary. The equivalent of the present marriage licence.
