HOWEVER

There is a Susan Jones aged 29, Independent, living in Camden Street, St. Mary Newington, Lambeth in 1841 - HO 107/1064/10 with a 6 year old George and a 26 year old Mary.

This is the closest I have found to date but so far have had no success in following up these leads.

George Jones was on the Depot list for:

the 1 Oct-31 Dec Muster, but he and some others are just for 1 Nov onwards, so perhaps he moved into the Depot at that date - earlier dates not checked.

the Jan-March 1857 Muster , but shown as moving to the 6th battalion on 8 Feb - his marriage date. Perhaps the possibility of imminent posting set the marriage date.

George Jones traced through the quarters, until 7 Jan 1858 - deserted!!!

Which explains why there was no discharge papers for him.
