George Pelteret, SV/PROG

George Pelteret was taken in by Children's Friend Society, London; he was sent to Cape Town aboard the Charles Kerr from Cowes, captained by Mr.Brodie (departure 21 January 1833, arrival 11 May 1833) to become a house servant to R W Eaton.

By 1837, he was working on the farm Brandenburg(er) in Rosebank, the site of the present Rosebank Methodist Church, Cape Town.

"George Pelteret was a labourer and Evelina a house servant. Both worked for Jacob Letterstedt, owner of

Mariendahl Brewery (later Ohlson's and subsequently South African Brewery). George purchased burial plot at St Paul's in 1837. Died 30 January 1890; Evelina died 19 June 1890. Bones disinterred and said to have been reburied with headstone at St.Saviour's, Claremont when church hall built at St Paul's. No record found of this at St.Saviour's, Claremont; and no record of the details of the headstone are found on the list of headstones at St.Paul’s in the South African Archives, Cape Town"
