About George Ralph Wallis, Jr.
Biography
In his marriage and probate records he is called George Wallis he was the son of George Wallace "of Newfoundland" and Eleanor. On 1686 Nov 18 in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire, he married Ann Shortridge 1665 – 1726 and probably these children:
1) Esther Wallis 1681 – 1726 m Nathaniel Berry 1688 – 1771
2) Caleb Wallis his only son developmentally disabled
3) Hannah Wallis m Edward Randall (Randle)
4) Ann Wallis m Abraham Barnes,
5) Deborah Wallis m Christopher Scadgel
6) Mary Wallis m , Benjamin Seavery.
George and Ann deeded June 5 1719, New Hampshire Deeds, vol. ii, page 8. He died before Sept. 12, 1726, when his estate was divided (New Hampshire Probate Records, vol. vii., page 312)
All of the above children are mentioned in his probate records. In his probate records from 1724 in Newcastle (vol 10 p 337) his estate is administered by his son-in-law Nathaniel Berry (husband of Esther Wallis). Also signing are Nehemiah Berry, Samuel Rand, Butts Bacon and Bejamin Gambling. Appraising his estate are Tobias Landon and George Walker. It mentions support for his son Caleb Wallis who is called his "only son to ye Dec'd during his natural life he being and Ideot & So not Capable of maintaining himself." And the rest of the children listed: Ann Barns, Mary Seavy, Ester Bery, Deborah Scaggell and Hannah Randle. Receipts for shares are signed by Edward and Hannah Randall, Abraham and Ann Barnes, Christopher and Deborah Scadgel, Benjamin and Mary Seavery. There is also a long list of minor receipts signed.
In most older genealogies he described as the son of George Wallis and Eleanor and he was called Ralph Wallis who came from London with his father George on the Abigail.
In the genealogies listed under sources these children are also mentioned:
Mary Walles (1) 1681 – m William Bates 1675 – 1731
JAne WALLIS m Stephen Lang
Mary WALLIS (2) m Peter Ball
Sarah WALLIS m Joshua Foss
Samuel WALLIS m Sarah Moses and Deborah widow of James Reeder.
William WALLIS
Ebenezer WALLIS
George WALLIS
Based on the probate records it is very clear that genealogists have confused two different men. Yes he was the son of George and Eleanor. But no his name was not Ralph and these other children do not belong to him.
