Came to Virginia in 1738 on the ship Wapoole with Captain James Patton at age 18 as an indent ured servant for seven years.After four month journey, arrived at Port Belhaven on the Potomac River, then traveled overla nd to Augusta County, VA. Later around 1745 moved Southwest with Patton to what is now Montg omery County, VA near Blacksburg.
1755 killed along with James Patton in an Indian attack.Children left Virginia due to the Indian uprisings, and moved to Rowan County, NC with Henry' s brothers.3 Jan 1754, bought 75 acres from James Patton for 3 pounds 15 shillings. 4 Jan 1754-Deed Book No. 6, pg 41, Same [Patton] to Henry Ledford, 75 acres, part of a tract patented to Patton 3d Nov 1750 on West Fork of the Roanoke. 'Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia: Extracted from the Original Court Records of Augusta County 1745-1800, Vol III, Lyman Chalkey, p 321-322 [copy on file]In July 1755 Henry Ledford was killed at the Draper's Meadow Indian Massacre. His family left Virginia with William L. B. and John Ledford to settle in Rowan County, NC.
