About Henryk Hechter
GEDCOM Note
A) Mrs. Zofia Hechter-Glatman reported that Karol Daniel ("grandfather Hechter") had a restaurant "U Józefa" in Kraków, ul. Lubicz 9, near the main railway station of Kraków (at the timesof Emperor Francis Joseph I). Lilli and Helena have workedthere, Francis Joseph I was there and brought many flowers for Lili and Helena. It seems that this was a confusion with Henryk HECHTER, the father of Karol Daniel's son-in-law, Karol. Henryk had a restaurant near the railway station of Kraków (Plac Kolejowe 1). And he had several daughters which might have worked inthe restaurant. Mrs. Glatman's daughter had small objects made of alpaca (e.g., plates) which were reported to come from this restaurant.
In fact, there was really a restaurant in ul. Lubicz 9 which was lead by a Józef Frimmel (source: address book of Kraków 1905). From 1921 to 1931, a "Restauracja Zwiazkowa Józefa" Ltd. appeared in ul. Lubicz 9.
B) Probably it is his obituary that was published in "Neue Freie Presse" of 21.05.1910 (nr. 16430). There he is mentioned as father, grandfather, and uncle.
D) =?= buried 1910 on the Jewish cemetery in ul. Miodowa
source: grave list on website of Dan Hirschberg, ref. nr. 3
E) =?= HECHTER Hirsch, buried on Kraków cemetery (ul. Miodowa), section 8, row 4, grave 20 (page 77, sort 73; no year given) [according to JRI; however, acc. to JRI, the New Cemetery Burial Register covers only the years 1922-1939 and 1945-1961.Only for the latter, a date of death is given] (remark: As seen with Henryk/Hirsz Unger, a Jew bearing the name "Henryk" might bear the Jewish name "Hirsz")
F) On the Kraków cemetery (ul. Miodowa 55), there is a memorial near the entrance consisting of several gravestone fragments. One of theses fragment is that of the gravestone of a Heinrich Hechter, died 20.05.1910 in his 75th year. On the gravestone he is called “our beloved father”. Both fits perfectly to the Henryk Hechter born in March 1836.
G) The fact that his 1913 born grandson was named "Henryk" corroborates the hypothesis that he died shortly before 1913, as Kraków jews tended to name their children after recently deceased relatives. Besides, he dos not appear in the 1910 census any more.
