About Hugues II de Montfort-sur-Risle, seigneur de Montfort-sur-Risle, constable of England

Vital Statistics

Hugues II de Monfort-sur-Risle (died after 1088) was the son of Hugues I "cum barba". Apparently the second son.

He fought in the battles of Mortmaer in 1054 and Hastings in 1066. He is a "Proven Companion of William the Conqueror" (see Wikipedia article) since there is documentation of his having taken part in the conquest of England in 1066. He became a monk in 1088.

He had four (4) children total, an eldest daughter by his first wife and two sons and a daughter by his second wife. His first wife was one of the daughters (given name uncertain) of Richard de Beaufour. Their daughter, Alice de Montfort, was the heir of Montfort-sur-Risle.

His second wife's name is not known. He had three children with his second wife: (1) Robert I who died prior to 1111; (2) Hugues III who died before 1100; (3) Adeline de Montfort-sur-Risle.
