Funeral services for Mrs. Isabel M. Hegeman, widow of Lieutenant-Colonel Harry A. Hegeman, United States Army, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Knapp's Chapel, Vancouver, with interment in the cemetery at Vancouver Barracks. Mrs. Hegeman died late Sunday night after a long illness.
Born at Reedsburg, Wis., May 9, 1878, Mrs. Hegeman moved as a child to Minnesota and later to Gary, S.D. At the age of 18 she became engaged to Harry Hegeman, shortly before the Spanish-American War took him to the Philippines. At 21, she travelled across the Pacific to join him in the islands, where they were married.
After the war,they lived at many army posts in this country and the Orient. They came to Portland to make their home in 1920.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R. Louis Gray and Mrs. Jalmar Johnson, both of Portland, four grandchildren, two brothers, Dr. E.W. Humphrey of Moorhead, Minn., and W,M. Humphrey of Fargo, N.D., and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Ammel of Dodge Center, Minn.
Mrs. Hegeman was a member of Nydia Temple, Daughters of the Nile, the Army and Navy league and Scout Young Auxiliary, United Spanish War Veterans.
