Evidence from the Birnie Manuscript

"John Hamilton of Broomhill his third and youngest daughter, first married Cuthbert Hamilton of Canir, in the paroch of Dalserf, with issue, and is, upon the 18th day of January 1544, infeft therein; and, upon the 18th day of June 1549 there is a declaration and Instrument by John Hamilton of Neilsland, her brother-in-law, and Robert Hamilton of Dalserf, narrating that albeit the deceast Cuthbert Hamilton of Candir had made and appoyntit them tutors testamentar to his children. In case the said Isobell after his death, should again marrie; Yet they not only freely consent that the said Isobell should marrie Robert Hamilton, son and appearand air to the said Robert Hamilton of Dalserf; But also renounce their office of tutorie in their favours: This done the said at Broonhill, before these witnesses, John Hamilton of Broomhill, and Quentin Hamilton, burgess of Hamilton, her bretheren.The said Isobel, now spouse tp Robert Hamilton of Dalserf, does, upon the 4th of October 1589, make her testament, her husband alive, and recommends it to the care of John Hamilton of Canir, her eldest son, by her first husband, Robert Hamilton of Dalserf, her present husband, John Hamilton of Broomhill, her brother, and their eldest son William Hamilton of Dalserf, younger; and that her daughter Katherin be married and provyded for at the sight of her nephews Gavin and Gavin Hamiltons, elder and younger of Raploch, and Archibald, his brother, after of Milburn, her nephews as said, the said John Hamilton of Canir, and William Hamilton, younger of Dalserf, and John Hamilton, younger of Neilsland, her grand-nephews. The above Katherin was afterwards married to James Lockhart of Lee, and the same William, her son, to Janet Symington, daughter to John Symington of that Ilk; both with issue". 26 August 1559: Charter granted by Gavin, commendator of the monastery of Kilwinning and the convent thereof, of the Order of St Benedict in the diocese of Glasgow in favour of Robert Hamilton of Dalserf, younger and Isabella Hamilton, his spouse, and the longest liver of them two in conjunct infeftment and the heirs lawfully procreated or to be procreated between them; whom failing the nearest and lawful heirs and assignees of Robert whomsoever, of the houses lying in the east side of the lands of Beinyard and Little Yard belonging to the said Robert and Isabella in feu farm together with the Little Yard on the north side of the said houses adjoining the Little Yard of Alexander Cowper of Brigend lying in the parish of Kilwinning, regality thereof, bailliary of Cunningham and sheriffdom of Ayr: to hold of the granters and their successors in feufarm for payment yearly of 5s Scots as the old duty used and wont to be paid together with 20 pennies in augmentation of the rental extending in whole to the sum of 6s 8d. 26 March 1630: Charter by which King Charles I confirms possession of certain lands to William Hamilton, now of Dalserf, son of the late William Hamilton of Dalferf. His landed possession included the ten shilling lands of Corshill formerly held by the late Robert Hamilton, younger of Dalserrf, and his wife, the late Isobel Hamilton.
