Skule Bårdson hold a meeting in Trondheim on November 6 and gets royal name Øreting assembly. Present is the cousin Ivar "young" Gjeslings. (Swathes Vang Sola was the grandmother of Ivar and grandmother to Skule.) He breaks with his father and his grandfather's political line.

After parliament was Ivar sent to Uplands mission to kill those of King Hakon's men he can come over. On Laak Nannestad becomes a battle against baglerhøvdingen Arnbjørn Johnsson and ribbungehøvdingen Knut Håkonsson, now both were King Hakon's men.

Håkon Håkonson win the decisive victory against Skule Bårdsson in a battle in Oslo on 21 April. Ivar "young" Gjeslings participates in this battle, but come with his life. They flee to Trondheim but May 24 comes a new kind where both Duke and lenderman must pay with his life.

The Civil war era in Norway (borgerkrigstiden) is a term used for the period between 1130 and 1240 in the history of Norway. During this period there were several interlocked conflicts of varying scale and intensity. Although weak in the beginning, the Birkebeins had the upper hand in the dispute almost all the time it existed. King Haakon IV was the ultimate victor for the Birkebeins in 1217. In the earlier part of the reign of King Haakon, much of the royal power was in the hands of Skule Bårdsson. In 1239, the conflict between the two erupted into open warfare, when Skule had himself proclaimed king in Nidaros. The rebellion ended in 1240 when Skule was put to death
