About Jacobus Ignatius de Wet, b1c2d5e2f9

Living in 1846 so far over borders of Cape Colony, the first child could not be baptized until 11 months. In 1847 frontier colony is moved to opposite Crow River and three children on newly formed Burgersdorp baptized. Exit 1852 Aliwal North Region and settled first on Leeuwkop at Smithfield in 1959 at Limestone Park in Bloemfontein, in 1861 after New Year's Fontein. He was known by the Veldkornet neighborhoods Upper Mud River as Kootjie grandfather, father of Dewetsdorp, formerly the farm Kareefontein after an application for township establishment at his insistence by House of Assembly has been submitted and accepted in 1880. The town is also named after him then. He bought the farm ifrom an Irishman, Carroll, for £ 1,500. He was regarded as the "father" and held the town post as resident-justice, however blind and later resigned.
