About James William Miller
He married Delia Hensley on the steps of the Cannon Methodist Church on July 24, 1904. Born to them were four children: Otto Frank, Hugh, Thelma, and Elinor. James liked to tell his children that he was, "born in jail" because his father (Jacob Warren Miller) was the sheriff in Cumberland, Kentucky where he grew up.
James was a farmer and a carpenter. He lived with his wife and children in several areas: Cumby TX., Kentucky Town TX., Grayson County TX., Cannon TX., Van Alstyne TX., Howe TX., White Wright TX., and Platter Oklahoma. From 1926-1931, he was called to testify as a character witness for his son, Otto Frank, who was killed by an irate police officer. He spent the last few years of his life living at the Calera, Oklahoma nursing home with his wife.
When he passed away, his oldest daughter, Thelma Irene Miller-Hansard, wanted him buried in Colbert, Oklahoma so she could be near him. In the end, his youngest daughter, Elinor Miller-Coleman, had him buried at Cannon next to his son (Frank), his parents, and various brothers and sisters where he belonged.
He is buried at Cannon Cemetery next to his wife (Delia), son (Frank), and 2nd Great-Granddaughter (Katrina). His parents (Jacob and Isabel Miller), his brothers (John C. Miller & Eeed Miller), his sister (Esther Miller), his nephew (Willie Bell Miller) and his grandmother (Martha Tallent-Dicken) are all buried north of him toward the entrance of the cemetery. His wife's parents (The Hensley's) are buried west of him.
