According to the late John Anderson, Janet Newlands was a daughter of Matthew Newlands of Kipps. Memoirs of the House of Hamilton: 301 This is wrong. The Particular Register of Sasines for the Sheriffdom of Lanark confirms that she was the daughter of James Newlands of Kipps. [RS42/IV/389]
