GEDCOM Note

per Miral Haubner's research: from Meppelen, in NYDR church, Jannetje Hendrickse Wiltse, from Esopus [Kingston]. She bap. Jan 7, 1663. dau. of Hendrick Martensen & Margrietje Meyringh. According to Budke, they both resided at the Poor Farm on Long Island when they married. After birth of first child they moved from L.I. to Manhattan where they remained until after 1687. In Dec. 1692 Myndert purchased land at Haverstraw, NY from Harme Hay. Myndert died in 1699 or 1700 and his widow, at age 37, married in 1701 John DePew, a young man of 26.

Parents listed as Myndert Hendricksen and Jannetje Hendricks in childrens' baptismal records. In Holland their surname would have become Myndertse, but permanent surnames were required by about 1700 in this country so they chose Hogencamp, which translates to "high encampment".
