About Joaquín Balmori

Joaquin Balmori was a pioneer labor leader and organizer of labor unions in the Philippines. After breaking away from the Congreso de Obrero de Filipinas, he founded “Federacion del Trabajo de Filipinas” in 1917. He outlined union rules, making resolutions against strikes and other radical movements. Likewise, he urged labor unions to charge no fees or membership dues.

He was also a journalist who represented Pangasinan in the Philippine Assembly. He fought the Divorce Bill filed in the Assembly in 1911.

Commonwealth of the Philippines, Manuel L. Quezon, The President's Day, The President's Month in Review, February 14 – March 13, 1938:

Commonwealth of the Philippines, Manuel L. Quezon, The President's Week in Review, December 6, 1941:
FORMER ASSEMBLYMAN Joaquin Balmori, labor leader and President of the Federation of Labor of the Philippines, died last December 2. Paying tribute to his memory, the President said of him that “he deserves to be mourned, not only by labor, but also by capital, because he was always fair in his advocacy of the rights of labor.” Vice-President Sergio Osmeña and other high government officials joined the President in expressing condolences.
