Church documentation describes Johan Ernst Emichens` Baptisim as "Beisass" 

Translated from Dutch to English (pronounced b-zus in English) using Google translate. Translated from German to English, this means "Sojourner", using Google translate.

Researcher, Dr. Henry Z.Jones, thought-the surname shown here and known today, has a translation to the meaning of " a foreign neighbor or fugitive". So, to sum this all up, Emichen is not his proper surname. It is believed to be Emick or Emiger as well it could be Emmerich or Emich or Emgie. Our Empey surname includes spelling variations like: Emmerich, Emig, Empie, Empey, Emich, Impey, etc.

The surname Empey is thought to be Irish Huguenot and therefore of Celtic/ French heritage, thus, information collected from German Church records, states the Emichs were foreign neighbors or fugitives from another country.

Prussia is the last Country that Johann Ernst Emichen left documentation in (birth) therefore, we might assume this Surname is Germanic. This is false. Prussia was actually a geographic region, which originated from an area between Lithuania and Poland. Later in time, this area grew to encompass the Southern Baltic Coast and Northern Germany.  Maria Ursula Rosenbachin perishes in London, as well as the two youngest sons Johannes Ludovicus and Johannes Paulus. Note that some family pedigrees show these two, youngest sons as marrying and having children. This is simply false.

2.Aug. 21 1709 Johann Ernst Emichen marries Margaretha Winter in London. Johann Ernst Emichen, Margaretha, Johan Adam and Johannes emigrate to New York, USA.

In June of 1710. They cross the Atlantic ocean, from London, England- aboard the ship named Fame arriving in America June 14 1710. Walter Houxton was listed as the ship Fames Captain.

(They were referred to as Palatinates, as they were immigrants from the Palatine Counties of Germany.) Here they were settled in West Camp on the West side of the Hudson River.

In Oct. of 1710, the family is moved to an area up the Hudson River to Livingston Manor- a large land tract where camps were established and the Palatine families were expected to labor to tar the King of Englands Naval ships.

Son Adam is confirmed Apr. 30 1711

In the Early days prior to the start of the Revolutionary War in Colonial America, there was bitter debate about Loyalty to the King of England and Loyalty to the cause of the new American Colonies. The Empie Family had a Surname change. We now have Empey and Empie and each name is Genetically Related. Brother against Brother and Uncle against Nephew.

Some of our family created the surname change to Empey, they were intent on keeping loyaties to the King of England and the remaining Empie families, sided loyalties with the Colonists new Patriot cause.

Therefore, the Empey families, , were among those referred to in American History as Tories. They had lost their properties and possessions after the American Revolution and were among the early colonizers of Ontario, Canada.
