About John Mallory
Do not confuse him with John B. Mallory, of Alabama.
He was in Fayette County, Kentucky by 1804, when he posted bond and gave his consent for the marriages of his three daughters. He was probably a close relative of the other Mallorys in Fayette County, who were also involved in marriages: Jane Mallory, married 30 June 1804 William Smith, with bondsmen Benjamin Smith and Roger Mallory, and witness (her uncle?) Samuel Mallory. Samuel Mallory married Fanny Smith on 20 August 1804, with consent from bondsman Benjamin Smith.
There is no John Mallory on the 1810 census of Fayette County, Kentucky. He was probably the John in neighboring Harrison County. That John was living near several Coleman families, who might have been relatives.
He was living at Harrison County, Kentucky as early as April 1808, when he bought from the estate of Jonathan Eads, who was almost certainly his co-father-in-law. Jonathan Eads was father of William Eads, who married Henrietta Mallory, almost certainly John Mallory's daughter.
John Mallory also bought property from the estates of Henry Coleman (25 August 1809) and George Hinston (July 1813).
He appears on the 1810 census as John Mallary, at Harrison County, Kentucky. He had 1 male over 45 (himself), 1 male 16-26 (son Samuel), 2 males 10-16, 1 male under 10, 1 female 26-45- 2 females 10-16, 2 females under 10, and 3 slaves in his household.
He was probably the John Mallory who married Jane Carrick in 1810 in Harrison County, Kentucky. He was chosen as guardian by (his step-daughter) Jenny Carrick, infant orphan of John Carrick, May 1810 in Harrison County, Kentucky (Harrison Co. Order Bk. A:166). Jenny must have been nearly an adult, as she married Herbert Wells in October of the same year.
There is a John Mallary, Sr. in 1820 at Christian County, Kentucky, but that might be a different person.
If he was the John Mallory who was enumerated on the 1830 census at Nicholas County, he was age 50-60.
He died before 19 January 1849, when the will of Cordelina Whiteker of Bracken County mentioned 33 acres she inherited from her brother James Field and which adjoined "the farm of John Malory, dec'd."
