About John Myers
John enlisted in the 79th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers on September 7, 1861 as a private. When mustered out on July 12, 1865, he was a 2nd Lt. Assigned to Company F, he saw action at Jasper, Sweden's Cove and Chattanooga. Company F then marched 284 miles in 14 days to Shelbyville. Moving north, it was heavily engaged at Perryville and saw action at Murfreesboro. It joined Rosencran's army and suffered severe loses at Chickamauga. Following engagements at Buzzard's Roost and Tunnel Hill, GA., it saw almost constant action until the fall of Atlanta. It joined Gen. Sherman in his march to the sea then moved through the Carolinas and saw heavy action in Bentonville. Company F was mustered out near Alexandria, VA. on July 12, 1865.
