About John Pugh, I
Note: Notes made by professional genealogist Matilda Evans many years ago, who searched Quaker records and public records in Pennsylanvia for information on James Pugh and his descendants: "John Pugh and Mary Jenkins were married in Goshen Meeting, 1730. He sold his Uwchlan property and removed to Coventry. His children were: John, married Hannah Meredith, 1763; Johathan, who married Naomi Evans, 1759 (later married Sarah Bateman, widow); Mary, married Elihu Evans, 1763; anna married John Roberts, later John Lewis."
John is the son of of James & Joan (Price) Pugh. "John married Mary Jenkins and they are the parents of seven children- Sarah, Joshua, Jonathan, James, John, Mary and Evan. There are records of the children in Orphan's court. Both John's brother Hugh Pugh and his sister Sibilla Pugh-Edwards petition the court on behalf of his orphan children. Chester County Pennsylvania court records volume IV 1734-1736. John's eldest daughter Sarah is old enough to petition the court on her own behalf and chose her own guardian. Even though the children still have a surviving mother it is the Quaker way to appoint a guardian to help raise and teach the children a trade as a means of survival. John's widow Mary Jenkins-Pugh married a second time 18 November 1745 to Mordecai Roberts".
