About John S. Lusk
John S. Lusk was the youngest child of Andrew Lusk and Charlotta Alafoir (Hull) Lusk, and was born 10 Feb 1842 in Indiana and most likely Warwick County, because that is where the family was residing in the 1850 census. His father died prior to 02 Sept 1850 because his mother is listed as a widow in the 1850 census. Charlotta (Hull) Lusk was born 17 Oct 1811 in Fleming, Kentucky and died sometime after August 14, 1890. Andrew Lusk and Charlotta Hull were married in Greenup County Kentucky (bond date 14 Aug 1830).
John S. Lusk was married to Missouri Anne Gray on November 30, 1870. They were the parents of nine children, Andrew Jackson, George Washington, Fred B. Rosetta "Etta" , Matt, Tilda, John S., and Cordelia, and one who died in infancy.
Ripley County Democrat, July 5, 1912, pg. 3, col a. (Note newspaper typo with name. List name as Jamas S. Lusk instead of John S. Lusk. Missouri death certificate confirms that this is the same person.)
Jamas S. (John S.) Lusk, a well-known old citizen who lived on the Tom Clark farm just over the hill south of town, died at a hospital in St. Louis last Sunday and the body was brought home last Tuesday for burial. The deceased went to the hospital some weeks ago for an operation for kidney and bladder trouble, and had not been doing well since then. He was very well liked by all who knew him.
- ********************************* Note: John S. Lusk Missouri death certificate states he was born in 1839, but various other records indicate the year on the tombstone is correct.
