The origin of John Watkins is unknown according to John Stutesman, who wrote an article, " John Watkins of Henrico County, 1743," however "assertions have been made" that he was a grandson of the Henry Watkins, Quaker farmer in Henrico County.

John Watkins wrote his will on 28 July 1743 and signed it "W." It was probated on the "first Monday in May 1744" at Henrico County, Virginia.[1]. John's will appointed executors, his "wife Elizabeth" and son John; the witnesses were Henry and Ann Stokes, and "Honour Sullavent"
John married to Elizabeth Unknown.[1] Our only records of her do not give her maiden name.
