About Josephine N Sheler

Josephine's four children by her prior marriage to Joseph Rauh -- Rosa, Eva, Andrew, and Henry -- were added pursuant to information from the 1880 US Census and the 1900 US Census. The 1900 census showed Jacob and Josephine Sheler living with their five children -- Alice, Margarite, Dorotha, Leander (later know as Lou), and Harry -- plus Henry Rauh, her son from her earlier marriage to Joseph Rauh. The 1880 census showed Joseph and Josephine living with their three children -- Rosa, Eva, and Andrew -- in Dorr, Michigan. Henry was born in 1882. Sometime between 1882 and 1886, Joseph (a farmer) died. Josephine married Jacob Albert Sheler in 1886 in Grand Rapids. It appears that only Henry, the youngest, lived with Jacob and Josephine, according to the 1894 Michigan census and the 1890 US census. I don't know what happened to the others.

I believe that Joseph Rauh died in 1884. Josephine's son, Andrew Rauh, was living in Springfield, Lagrange, Indiana, according to the 1910 federal census (see entry on Andrew Rauh's page). He was 30 years old at the time and had two children.

Josephine died in November 1900, on either the 4th or the 24th. This followed the birth of her last child, John Jacob Sheler on September 22, 1900. John Jacob died on March 22, 1901. Josephine and John Jacob both were buried in Georgetown Cemetery in Hudsonville, MI, in adjoining plots:
