About Josiah Isaac Bush, I
Josiah b. 1733 d. 1781 m. Sarah (Lewis) Brown. Josiah was one of the 6 brothers & 1 sister that was persuaded to leave Orange County and travel west on the Wilderness Road with their brother, William (Capt. Billy). The groups final destination was to be Fort Boonesbourgh, KY. However, since Josiah's son James had been in Castle's Woods (present day Castlewood, VA) for a long time, it is thought that possibly Josiah never intended to go to Kentucky but was instead going to Castlewood. They were forced to stop on the Holston River in what then was known as Blacks Fort/Wolf Hills and is now Abingdon, VA. A runner had been sent from Ft. Boonesborough to warn them of the increasing Indian problems. The travelers set up camp and stayed there for three years raising families and crops. This is where the "Traveling Church" that became the Providence Church in KY started keeping records. I have a small portion of these records & minutes of the meetings. Josiah died in 1781 while there were in Abingdon. As far as we can tell, his wife, Sarah, continued on to Fort Boonesbourgh with 4 of their 5 children.
