About Philip P Bush, I

Child #3 of John & Margaret was Philip P. b. 1700 d. 1772 m. Mary Bryan who was born in Ireland in 1710. She died sometime between 1750-1772. An interesting note on Philip Bush is that in the records of Orange County on March 6, 1745, "William Bryan of St. Thomas Parish, Orange County, sold to Philip P. Bush of the same, in consideration of five shillings and the rent of one ear of Indian corn yearly, at the feast of St. Michael, the Archangel, when lawfully demanded" it goes on to state the amount of land and so forth, but what is interesting is that the deed was witnessed by Zachary Taylor, the grandfather of the President of that time and the other witness was James Madison who became president in 1808. Also, James Madison was a witness for Philip P. Bush’s will.

Five sons and one daughter traveled with Daniel Boone to set up the new colony in Kentucky. Phillip Jr., John, William (Captain Billy), Francis, Ambrose, and Mary and her husband Robert Richards. Another, Josiah, died en route to Kentucky.

Orange County (VA) Order Book 2, p. 336 March Court 1741

      In the Suit by petition brought by John Cattlet and Thomas Stanton, Gentlemen, Church wardens of St. Marks parish against Phillip Bush for five hundred pounds of tobacco or fifty Shillings Current Money with the Costs of a former Suit against Mary Bush for having a Bastard Child due by bill, the Defendant not appearing, Judgment is granted the petitioners for the said Sum of five hundred pounds of tobacco or fifty Shillings & one hundred pounds of tobacco the Costs of the aforesaid Suit against the said Defendant and Costs.
