Janet Cunningham, here treated, married Alexander Cunningham, Earl of Glencairn. On 22 January 1549-50 he granted her a charter "in ejus pura virginitate" for the lands and barony of Stevenston. She survived her husband. The Scots Peerage IV: 241

28 January 1549: Instrument of Seisin in favour of Janet Cunningham daughter of John Cunningham of Caprington, and the heirs to be procreat between her and Alexander Earl of Glencairn, her husband, in the lands and barony of Stevenson and others, proceeding on a precept by the Earl for infefting her therein in her pure virginity. Witnesses to the precept, James Chalmer of Gaitgirth, Adam Cunningham in Cotterhill etc. dated at Ayr 22 January 1549.
