Leland Robert Kugelgen, MD Apr. 25, 1933 – Dec. 14, 2016 Resident of Berkeley Dr. Leland Robert Kugelgen, 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 surrounded by family at his home in Berkeley, CA. Leland was born in 1933 to Waldemar von Kugelgen and Valborg Leland, in Winnipeg, Canada. He attended Hickman High School in Columbia, MO, Stanford University, and Stanford University School of Medicine. Leland married Nancy Breaux Lindsay in 1956 and together they raised three sons in the Bay Area before Nancy died from cancer in 1984. Later, he met Marilyn Larkin through a mutual friend and they were married in 1999. Leland was a loving husband and parent. He enjoyed music, playing the fiddle, and spending time with family. Some of his favorite places were Fiddle Camp, Stinson Beach, Tuolumne Meadows and the Canadian Rockies. Dr. Kugelgen practiced medicine throughout the East Bay from 1962 – 2007. He was a gifted doctor, specializing in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Kugelgen was known to his colleagues, nurses and patients as a compassionate, caring physician. Leland is survived by his wife, Marilyn Larkin Kugelgen; his brother Joe (Ann) von Kugelgen; sons Owen (Mimi) von Kugelgen, Evan (Mallory) von Kugelgen, and Bruce (Alicia) von Kugelgen; stepdaughters Jennifer Larkin Passantino, Jocelyn (Chris Patti) Larkin, Hillary (Randy) Larkin Trimble, and Roberta (Michael) Larkin Hauser; and 13 grand children. Leland lived an exceptional life and he will be greatly missed.
