Published in The Rochester Sentinel Friday, October 11, 1895

Monday's Daily: Grandma SWARTWOOD, whose enfeebled condition was protracted departed this life at eight o'clock Sunday evening, aged nearly 78 years. Her maiden name was Lydia STAILEY, a sister to Samuel STAILEY, formerly well known in Rochester, but has been a resident of California for many years. She was born in Pennsylvania October 13, 1817, and came with her husband to Indiana in 1844, and became the mother of six children -- Sarah C., John H., Samuel C., Miles Q., Emma A. and Chas. C. [SWARTWOOD]. John H. and Miles Q. died some years ago. The husband died in Rochester, Nov 18, 1874. She leaves also two sisters -- Mrs. Catherine OLDS, at Winamac, and Mrs. Sarah OLDS, at Chicago. Grandma was a consistent member of the Evangelical church and a constant attendant when her health would permit. The funeral services will be attended at the church tomorrow afternoon sermon by the pastor, Rev. C. W. SPANGLER.

Mrs. Swartwood was an affectionate, kind hearted old lady, always jovial, agreeable and true to all friends and promises. Her days were long and useful and her reward will be correspondingly beautiful.
