It has been claimed that it was Margaret Lochmalony, here treated, who married Andrew Thomsoun, portioner of Freuchie in Fife It is further claimed that Andrew and Margaret were the parents of Dame Marion Montgomery, Lady Sempill WikiTree Both propositions are wrong. It is true that Margaret Lochmalony was the mother of Dame Marion Montgomery, Lady Sempill but his father was John Thomsoun, portioner of Kettle in Fife This is proved by an exchequer account dated 14 September 1538. The Question of Identity

Margaret Lochmalony, here treated, is the mother of David Thomsoun, elder, portioner of Kettle in Fife Her name is noticed in a crown charter made in favour of her son David which is dated 29 September 1541. RMS 1513-46: 2465 Her husband is not mentioned by name in David Thomsoun's charter, but his deceased father is identified as John Thomsoun, portioner of Kettle in Fife in an exchequer account dated 14 September 1538. 29 September 1541: Charter issued under the Great Seal of Scotland by which James V, King of Scots, confirms that he has set part of the lands of Kettill in feuferme to David Thomsoun, grandson of John Thomsoun. The land in question was to be held by David Thomsoun and his male heirs, whom failing by his senior female heir, without division. One third of the land in question was reserved to Elizabeth Gourlaw, the widow of John Thomsoun, and two parts of it was reserved for the support of Margaret Lochmalony, who is identified as the mother of David Thomsoun, and her remaining children, until her son David is of full age.
