The concentration camps housed civilians, i.e. woman, children and men not on commando under the age of 16 years or over the age of 60 years. Men who had taken oath of neutrality were also sometime kept in the camps.

P.O.W. camps housed men who had been on commando and had been captured or surrendered. They were mostly overseas, i.e. St. Helena, Bermuda, India and Ceylon. Camps were also in Natal, South Africa, i.e. Ladysmith, Umbilo, Durban and also in the Cape, South Africa, i.e. Green Point and Simon's Town. Refer to the Anglo Boer War Museum website.
