This marriage automatically placed him amolng the important men of the town, a position he solidified by natural ability. From the on until his death, his name appears frequently in the records as a purchaser or seller of alnds, officer or committeeman, witness, etc. The will of Mary, widow of Lion Gardiner, datged 19 Apr 1664, probatged 6 Jun 1665, gives to her daughter Mary Conkling "my whole accomodations at East Hampton," and mentons Jeremikah Conckling as her son in law. On 7 Mar 1694, John ardiner of Isle of Wight (Gardiner's Island) confirmed to "my Aunt Mary Conkling, wife of Jeremiah Concklin quite possession of all that allotment which did formerly belong to my honored grandfather Lion Gardiner; lying and being in East Hampton." Jeremiah Conling was named among the seven patentees in the duke of York's Patent to the Proprietors of East Hampton 13 Mar 1666. He also was one of the 12 tr4ustees in Gov. Dongan's Patent of 9 Dec 1686. The town taxt list of 1675 assessed him 193 pounds 10 shillings. In 1683, he stood 3igth on a list of 71 with estimated wealth of 247 pounds. The Indians on 18 Dec. 1669 renewed a whaling agreement formerly made with Lion Gardiner and the Rev. Thomas James, this time with Mr. JSames and "Jeremyah Conckling now standing up in ye rome of Lion Gardiner." When town proprietors contracted with the Indians on 1 Dec 1670 for the important Montauk Purchae, Jeremikah Conclin was one of four bondsmen for payment by the town. Justice JOHN MULFORD, Jeremiah CONCKLING and Rev. Thomas James on 30 May 1672,k obtained a grant of large acreage at Meantacut which caused wide discontent among other proprietors......................... Jeremiah Comkling on 16 Apr 1697 divided certan land between "my son Cornelius Conkling and my son-in-law THOMAS MULFORD............. It appears that Jeremiah and his wife spent nearly all of their married life in the house in East Hampton village that had been home of Lion Gardiner. The gravestone in East Hampton of Mary, wife of Jeremiah Conkling reads: "Here lyeth Mrs. Mary Conling wife of Mr. Jeremiah Conling who died 15 Jun 1727, aged (illeg.) years." The church record states that shd died aged about 89 years about 3 in morning.

Jeremiah was made administrator 11/27/1657 of his father's will
