• MATTHEW WHIPPLE, born died Sept. 28, 1647. Received a grant of land in Ipswich Hamlet in 1638, where re resided. He held the chief offices in town, and was on some of its most important committees. He had a brother John who settled in Ipswich, and perhaps a brother David who settle in Rhode Island, on a place called Study Hill, (Cumberland?) Matthew had two wives, 1st. by whom he had his children. 2d. Rose (Chute?) m'd Nov. 13, 1646, who outlived him.

• Matthew1 Whipple (MatthewA) was born about 1590 in Bocking, Essex County, England and died 28 September 1647 in Ipswich, Essex County, Mass. He married twice. (1) Anne Hawkins in Bocking 7 May 1622. She is the daughter of John Hawkins and Mary Levitt. (2) Rose Chute, widow of Lionel Chute, in Ipswich on 13 November 1646. She is the daughter of Robert Baker or Barker. A clothier, Matthew migrated to New England in 1638. He ws a farmer in the new world.

• 2. MATTHEW WHIPPLE (Matthew-1), born about 1590, in Bocking, England; died September 28, 1647, in Ipswich Hamlet, Massachusetts; married 1st May 7, 1622, in Bocking, ANN HAWKINS, who died about 1643. She was the daughter of John Hawkins, and was the mother of all of Matthew's children.
• Matthew Whipple married 2nd, ROSE ( ___ ) CHUTE who died after November 13, 1646; she was the widow of Lionel Chute who came from Dedham, Essex, England, and died in 1645 in Ispwich, Massachusetts.
