Susannah Story was the daughter of William Story and Sarah Foster. She was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts around 1660. Vital Records of Ipswich record a daughter of William born on 4 March 1664. This could be Susannah or Hannah, most likely Hannah.[1][2]

Disambiguation

The American Genealogist article by Francis Davis McTeer and Frederick C. Warner (TAG:39:102-103)[3] appears to be incorrect regarding the identity of Susannah Story. Susanna Story passed away in 1734 at age 74 placing her birthdate around 1660.[4][2]Additionally, she is specifically called out in her father's will as Susanna Browne.[5] Susanna (Fuller) Story the wife of William Story Jr. remains his wife until her death in Roxbury in 1707.[6]

Family

On 13 July 1681, Susanna married John Clarke in Lynn, Massachusetts.[7] They had two children before his death in December 1685. By 1687, she married Cornelius Browne in Lynn, Massachusetts.[8] She was living in Reading, Massachusetts in 1703.[3] They had at least seven children recorded in Reading and Lynn Vital Records. She is admitted to the First Church of Boxford in 1705.[9] On 9 January 1734, Susanna passed away in Boxford, Massachusetts.[4][2]

Note: The home of Susannah and Cornelius Browne no longer exists, but parts of the house have been preserved in The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Children of Susanna Story and John Clarke

  1. William Clarke (1682-????) did remove to Reading, Massachusetts by 1703. He was a weaver. CONJECTURE: William may have moved to Westfield, may have married Abigail Bush in 1722, and had daughter Rhoda (Clarke) Loomis; however, there is currently not sufficient evidence to substantiate this possibility.
  2. Mary (Clarke) Bancroft (1684-1723) married Deacon John Bancroft (1681/82-1768)
