About Muriel Beaumont
Times obituary (Nov 30, 1957) Lady Du Maurier, widow of the actor Sir Gerald Du Maurier and herself an actress in her youth, died on Wednesday at her home in Cornwall. She was 76.
Muriel Beaumont was the daughter of Harry Beaumont, a solicitor. Braving her father's disapproval she went on the stage and appeared first at the Haymarket Theatre in 1898. In 1902 she was engaged to play Lady Agatha in the original production of Barrie's _The Admirable Crichton_. Gerald Du Maurier, whom she had met once before at a tea party, was cast for the part of Ernest Woolley. Five months later they were married. She kept up her career on the stage until 1910, but she did not make another appearance with her husband once the first run of _The Admirable Crichton_ was over.
Sir Gerald du Maurier died in 1934. Lady du Maurier is survived by her three daughters, the second of whom is Daphne du Maurier, the novelist, who is married to Lieutenant-General Sir Frederick Browning.
