GEDCOM Note
!He was born in New Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut on 23 Jun 1763 In 1776 his mother was arrested for harbouring his father (who was a loyalist) and was brought out of Connecticut under a white flag with their children. She died on Long Island where the Loyalist were stationed. The children were given out to various families in the area to be taken care of. Apparently Nathan Bunnel went back into Connecticut, maybe to see about their personal belongings, because in 1779 he was placed under guardianship to Obediah Platt in Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut. He was a school teacher in West Farms, New York (now the area of the Bronx, by New York City) in 1787. In Feb 1795 he was in Long Point, Norfolk C, Ontario, when he administered his father's estate at Newark, Ontario. He recieved many grants of land in Charlotteville, Walsingham, Norfolk County, and in Wentworth County, Ontario. On 16 Mar 1809 he sold land to his brother, Wheeler Barnum, a tailor, in Charlotteville. Deed #573 He sold and bought land throughout the years 1800-1830, mostly in Norfolk County, Ontario. In 1817 he was a school teacher in Charlotteville. He had served as Justice of the Peace and on the Land Commission. His will is dated 13 May 1826. In Aug 1826 he was in jail at Lockport, New York for theft and was to stand trail the end of August. There was some question as to his sanity at this time. He died between 23 Apr 1829 and 10 Feb 1832.
