Nicholas Gardner

Son of George Gardiner (abt 1650-1724) & Tabitha Tefft.

§ 28. NICHOLAS GARDINER, 3 (George, 2; George, 1), was born about 1674. He married Mary Northup,* a daughter of Stephen. He died in 1746. She died in 1772. In 1708-9, George Gardiner and wife Tabitha sold "for love," to son Nicholas, eighty acres. In 1714 Nicholas Gardiner and wife Mary sold this land to Ichabod Sheffield. In his will, written July 15, 1746, and recorded August 9, 1746, he mentions the children given, also, ten slaves, showing that he must have had a fine establishment. His slaves were Sharper, Jeffrey, Scipio, Phillis, Patience, Silver, Thankful, Dellee, Jemima and Frederick. The land that he gave to his sons he calls "Land given to me by my honored father, George Gardiner."

Children Of Nicholas And Mary (Northup) Gardiner

1. 138. Nathan Gardiner," was born 1712(?), and married Katherine, a daughter of Nathaniel and Mary (Hannah) Niles.) She was born March 25 (5?), 1725, and died June 16, 1772. He married, second, Thankful , and died April 13, 1792.
2. 139. Henry Gardiner,40 was born, according to his tombstone inscription, in 1704. He died in 1791, "in his 88 year." He married, in 1726 (June 30), Abigail Eldred, a daughter of John(?).
3. 140. Caleb Gardiner, was born in 1710, and married, Feb. 20, 1734, Isabel Sherman, a daughter of Atrial and Dorcas (Gardiner) Sherman, she being his first cousin." He died in 1796.
4. 141. Lydia Gardiner, was born in 1706, and married, May 7, 1730, John Spencer, born in 1700, a son of Michael, of East Greenwich.
5. 142. Tabitha Gardiner, was born in 1714, and married Jeremiah Gardiner.
6. 143. Mary Gardiner, was born in 1708, and married, June(?) 28, 1728, Peleg Tripp, of South Kingstown.
