About R' Eliyahu Chaim (Elias) Huberland
Rabbi Elias Huberland, an authority on the Palestinian and Babylonian versions of the Talmud, the collection of Jewish civil and canonical law, died of a stroke Tuesday at Beth Israel Hospital. He was 76 years old, and lived at 36 Attorney Street.
Rabbi Huberland, who had served as an orthodox rabbi in Philadelphia before coming here, had been associated With the Hassidic Synagogue and the old Shearith Israel Synagogue. He retired twelve years ago because of arthritis.
Surviving are his widow, Bella; three sons, Joshua and Morris of New York, and Leon of Los Angeles; a daughter, Mrs, Regina Langner of Toronto: a sister, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
